Smarter PCOS-APP

A solution for tracking the menstrual cycle of women with PCOS.

📅 2025

Thanks for stopping by! this case study is still in the works—kind of like your cycle when you forget to track it 😉
I´m probably working on this app right now, so stay tuned for a deep dive into designing a smarter, smoother menstrual cycle tracking app for women with PCOS.

UX Research Concept development In progress

Overview

This app concept helps women with PCOS visualize hormonal states, understand symptoms, and identify meaningful lifestyle patterns. It offers gentle, personalized guidance for movement, nutrition, and self-care to support regulation rather than “fixing” the body. The experience reframes the body from “chaotic” to “rhythmic”—without judgment, pressure, or rigid cycle norms.

The goal is to help women with PCOS bring their cycle back into harmony with their bodies. “Cycle in harmony” means reaching a more regulated hormonal rhythm in which ovulation can become possible again, symptoms stabilize, and women are able to consciously experience and reconnect with their cycle.

What? Who? When? Why? How?

What is the problem?

Current cycle and health-tracking apps do not adequately support women with PCOS. They are primarily designed around a standard 28-day cycle and focus heavily on fertility prediction and period forecasting. For women with PCOS, whose cycles are often irregular and unpredictable, these tools are not only inaccurate but also emotionally frustrating. Additionally, while many apps collect large amounts of data, they rarely help users interpret it in a meaningful way. Users struggle to understand how symptoms, mood fluctuations, and bodily changes connect to their hormonal state and lifestyle.

Example user need: Lina (29) wants to understand her mood swings and psychosomatic symptoms in relation to her irregular cycle. However, current apps do not visualize these connections in a clear, personalized, or compassionate way.

Who experiences this problem?

Woman with PCOS who want to better understand their bodies and their menstrual cycle, especially those seeking clarity, emotional grounding, and health literacy rather than fertility prediction.

When does this problem occur?

In everyday life—particularly when women feel disconnected from their bodies, overwhelmed by symptoms, or unsure how their hormonal state relates to their mental and physical wellbeing.

Why does this problem exist?

  • Most cycle apps assume regularity and standard hormonal phases
  • Strong focus on fertility, ovulation, and predicting bleeding
  • Lack of personalization for hormonal conditions like PCOS
  • Data is collected but rarely translated into understandable insights
  • Emotional experience and psychosomatic symptoms are often ignored
  • How could this be solved?

    Through a comprehensive app that:

  • explains hormonal states in a visual, understandable way
  • connects symptoms, mood, lifestyle, and cycle patterns
  • insights instead of forcing standard cycle logic
  • empowers users through clarity, not pressure
  • How might we design an app that meaningfully reflects the needs of women with PCOS and irregular cycles, so that their unique symptoms, rhythms, and challenges are acknowledged, visualized, and supported?
